Abstract

Blood donation, an act that requires a sense of virtue from the donor, is undergoing a problem of low blood supply, especially in Korea. While the ineffective incentive strategy that the Korean government currently applies is assumed to be the plausible culprit, this paper dives deeper into the power of nudges in promoting blood donation to find the most effective nudging approach. Utilizing a survey composed of different nudges, this study measured the participant’s willingness to donate blood. The results indicate that the framing approach was the most effective strategy. Therefore, the study suggests the Korean government should apply the framing strategy to boost the low blood donation rate that Korea is currently facing.
